The danger and inherent privilege of neutral politics.

A message for those who stay out of politics or are sick of politics, this is privilege in action.  Privilege allows you to live a nonpolitical existence. Your wealth, your race, your gender, or your abilities allow you to lead a life in which you will not likely be a target of bigotry, attacks, deportation, or genocide. You don’t want to get political; you don’t want to fight because your life and safety are not at stake. If you find politics annoying or irrelevant, know that people in your backyard and across the world are fighting for their safety and lives. You just may not see it but that’s what privilege does.  

It is hard and exhausting to bring up issues of oppression and exploitation - get political - the fighting is exhausting, trust me, I’ve dedicated my personal and professional life to activism.  With privilege comes responsibility—responsibility to inform ourselves, to recognize inequality, and to speak against it. 

It is no longer an option to remain complacent. Our drive to dominate, to plunder and to control other humans, all the animals and all the resources of the planet is our race to the end.  The finish line is in site … but it’s a race we don’t want to complete.  

And your life may never be at risk but humanities future is, even with 8 billion of us we are at the threat of extinction. 

Neutrality is not an option.
